Trombonist, composer

Roland Dahinden (*1962), trombonist and composer. Studies in trombone and composition at the Musikhochschule Graz (Georg F. Haas), Scuola di Musica di Fiesole of Florence (Vinko Globokar), Wesleyan University in Connecticut (Anthony Braxton, Alvin Lucier; M.A.) and Birmingham University in England (Vic Hoyland; PhD). As a composer, his special interest is interdisciplinary collaboration with visual artists (Inge Dick, Sol LeWitt, etc.), concert performances, sound installations, and sculptures. As a trombonist, he concentrates on New Music and improvisation / jazz (premieres of Peter Ablinger, Maria de Alvear, Anthony Braxton, John Cage, Bernhard Lang, Alvin Lucier, Christian Wolff, etc.). Has made CD recordings for, among others, hatART Basel; Leo Records, London; Lovely Music, New York; Braxton House, New York; Black Saint, Milan; World Music, Cologne and Col Legno Vienna.
