Composer
Marcus Schmickler (*1968), composer. Studied composition with Prof. Johannes Fritsch and electronic music with Prof. Hans-Ulrich Humpert at the Cologne University of Music and Dance, as well as musicology at the University of Cologne. In his work, Schmickler explores extended methods for composing perceptual characteristics in sound and their spatialization. Compositions of electronic music, partly with choir, chamber ensemble and orchestra, media compositions, and installations. His music has appeared on labels including editions Mego, a-Musik, and Mille Plateaux. Curator, jury member of the German Music Council and the Federal Committee of New Music, author (sonification and music aesthetics). He lectures on music/sound at Bard College, USA, and media composition at the Robert Schumann University in Düsseldorf.
