Artist
Florian Dombois (*1966 Berlin), artist. He has focused on time and scaling, landforms, lability and tectonic activity. He studied geophysics and philosophy in Berlin, Kiel and Hawaii and did doctoral research on the question “What is an earthquake?”. He was founding director of the Institute Y at the Bern University of the Arts from 2003 to 2011. Since 2011 he has been a professor at the Zurich University of the Arts. Dombois has had numerous lectureships and guest professorships in Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Scandinavia, the UK, Cuba and the USA, among others. In 2010 he received the Deutscher Klangkunstpreis (German sound art prize). He was a guest artist at MIT Cambridge, Massachusetts in 2011 and at the Collegium Helveticum in Zurich 2012–2013, among others. In 2017, he has been featured in the Research Pavilion in Venice.
